About LIUNA Local 1059

LIUNA Local 1059 has modern facilities

Local 1059 was chartered by LIUNA in 1953 to represent workers in the counties of Middlesex, Elgin, Oxford, Huron, Perth and Bruce.

Currently it represents 2300 members, 1600 construction and 650 building maintenance, light manufacturing and security employees.

In any given year over 240 different employers employ members of Local 1059. All construction employers must hire their employees through Local 1059 for work covered by their Collective agreements with Local 1059.

Members are dispatched by the Union from a comprehensive hiring hall list which is based on the skill abilities of each of its members.

The local Union conducts all the bargaining of Collective Agreements, provides the benefit and pension coverages, arranges for training courses, organizes new employers, does community advocacy, political action, and represents members on employment related issues.

Executive Board/Business Representatives
The Executive Board of Local 1059 is elected by its membership every four years.
The Business Manager by virtue of his or her election is the only full time paid position by virtue of the election. Business Representatives and Support Staff are retained by the Executive Board and the responsibility of the Business Manager.
